Western Digital today announced the availability of the Ultrastar DC SS540 SAS SSDs. In 2.5-inch form factor and available in capacities of 480GB, 960GB, and 1.2TB, the SSDs are available worldwide and with an MSRP of approximately $399 , $799 , and $999, respectively.

Built on Intel’s 64-layer solid-state module (SSD) Technology, the Ultrastar DC SS540 provides consumers with the performance and durability expected from the latest industry-standard SAS SSD solutions. The Ultrastar DC SS540 SSDs feature a 2.5-inch SATA interface and SMI 256-bit controller. Storage system manufacturers, enterprises, cloud service providers, and consumers can choose to incorporate these flagship drives into their SSD storage platform and SATA based storage solutions.

High performance

The Ultrastar DC SS540 SSDs deliver predictable and consistent performance that enables user-preference-based access to data-intensive applications such as video editing and web surfing, while efficiently and securely backing up data. Operating temperatures of -40 °C to 85 °C and vibration ranges between 3.0-5.0G at 3.5-degreeN (8.6-14.9F) are incorporated to achieve reduced power consumption to protect data.
