Seagate Announces FireCuda 520 PCIe 4.0 SSD. – Available in 4TB, 6TB and 8TB capacities, the first solid state drives (SSDs) with SAS connectivity simplify today’s SSD solutions to enable faster, more responsive speed and system responsiveness
Seagate Technology plc, a leader in high-performance storage solutions, today announced the availability of the Seagate FireCuda 520 PCIe 4.0 SSD , the world’s first PCIe 4.0 SSD for notebook computers and higher-end workstations with a built-in SAS connector. Based on a Fusion-io FIO technology + SAS hybrid SSD stack, Seagate is helping drive the shift toward low-power low-cost SSDs with a distinct advantage for system speed.

The world’s first PCIe 4.0 SSD for notebook computer
The Seagate FireCuda 520 SSD features a super-fast 7.6Gb/s SATA interface and offers access speeds up to 2.5 times faster than any other SATA SSD. The Seagate FireCuda 520 SSD is also the industry’s first to use a Fusion-io FIO technology + SAS hybrid SSD stack, which means users get the benefits of both faster SSD performance and better data access without requiring additional investment. The Seagate FireCuda 520 SSD also includes advanced RAID protection capabilities designed to provide reliable, high performance I/O to higher-end workstations, workstations and notebooks. This adaptability allows the end-user to choose any combination of multiple solid state drive (SSD) modules for desired performance and capacity.
“SSDs have proven they can provide consumers, system builders and IT professionals with superior responsiveness and faster systems — but they have a limited time to reach full potential,” said Jerry Rolasko, senior analyst, Technology Research Institute. “With availability in both 128GB and 256GB capacities, the Seagate FireCuda 520 SSD is an ideal fit for true virtualization and cloud computing environments that require access to high-performance storage with low power consumption.”
“SSDs have been widely adopted by end-users for both the fast load times and long-term durability required to meet their computing needs,” said Dave Dauterman, vice president of marketing, Seagate. “Today’s announcement is an exciting extension of the highly successful Seagate Firepower family, and is driven by a continued need from end-users to respond to the increased demands of today’s highly complex applications and multi-tiered cloud environments.”
Seagate has designed the Seagate FireCuda 520 SSD to be the ideal solution for cloud computing. To support the rapid adoption of GPUs and workstations, the Seagate FireCuda SSD is powered by a significant increase in the number of NAND components per die from previous SSDs, and is able to use all the SAS ports offered on current SATA interface designs.
Enhanced compatibility
The Seagate FireCuda 520 SSD features a simplified interface for ease of integration with the industry’s top operating systems and applications. With an interface range from SATA 6Gb/s to PCI-E 2.0/3.0, the Seagate FireCuda SSD is ideal for an array of different workstations and hypervisors. Seagate has made the Seagate FireCuda SSD fully compatible with available RAID arrays and workstations, including full support for NFS/SMB and the latest applications.
